This is a curios thing that I have had for years. The intaglio feels like metal or stone rather than the black Wedgwood basalt or jasper ware . Marked Wedgwood on the back. The text on front reads Cleaopatra. It is mounted in silver with a brooch fitting and also a pendant/chatelaine type hanger hook. I don't know if it's a cast copy of a Wedgwood piece, but then why would it also have Wedgwood on the back. And the quality and detail on the portrait is excellent.
I have been intrigued by this brooch for too long and it is time for it find a new home
Size 5.2cm x 4.6cm. Pin is bent.
Silver Frame is fully Swedish Hallmarked, date letter for 1917.
This is quite heavy, it weights 45g so might not be right brooch for delicate fabrics
This has been cleaned and polished ready to wear.
Wear commensurate with age.
