A charming and unusual Victorian vinaigrette in the shape of an acorn, made from deep ruby glass with faceted sides and finished with a silver repoussé lid decorated in scrolling floral relief. Inside, there’s a tiny pierced grille that would once have held scented material — a lovely detail that speaks to its original purpose.
It comes with a short chain and loop for attaching to a chatelaine or suspending from a necklace. There are a few small flea bites to the glass facets, as you'd expect for a piece of this age, but overall it’s a beautifully preserved and quite special little object.
I have never attempted to remove the lid so I don't know how it works or if it can still be removed without damaging it.
